BankSA Vertigo Credit Card – Cashback Offer

The BankSA Vertigo Credit Card

Spent some time comparing credit cards? You’ve probably noticed that card offerings can vary, with some cards providing much more than others. However, you may also have noticed that some cards charge much more in fees and interest than others too.

The key to making the right choice is obvious. You need to find the card that offers all the perks you want – with the lowest possible outlay. Fortunately for you, we might be able to cut your search time down to zero, with the BankSA Vertigo Credit Card.

With few extras, the BankSA Vertigo Credit Card also helps to keep costs low. Not only does it have a blindingly great low rate of 13.99% p.a. on purchases, up to $500 cashback offer, it also features a low annual fee.

What we love...

BankSA Vertigo Credit Card comes with a pretty awesome cashback of 10% or up to $500 when you apply for a new BankSA Vertigo Credit Card, are approved, and shop using your new card at any eligible supermarkets & petrol stations within 180 days from card approval. Selected leading supermarkets include Coles, Woolworths, IGA, Harris Farm and Aldi. Only one cashback will be paid per customer. $500 cashback will be paid as a statement credit to your Vertigo credit card account within 30 days, each time you spend. Existing St George, Bank of Melbourne or Bank SA customers who currently hold a Vertigo credit card, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer.

It’s this card’s purchase rate that’s the real winner here. If you don’t always clear your balance each month, BankSA’s lowest purchase rate could help you save a bob or two.

If you’re cautious about spending or a first-timer, this card also helps you to be in control of your expenses as it provides you with a low minimum credit limit of $500.

Aside from offering features that help you save more, BankSA also provides options to Vertigo cardholders upon application. If you are looking for a way to consolidate your credit card balances, consider applying for the balance transfer offer of 0% p.a interest for 28 months.

What’s not so great...

There’s very little to complain about with this card, especially considering its $500 cashback offer which is one of the highest cashback deals available. You won't earn points or get other kinds of perks, but it is a low-fee card and that's standard for its type.

However, if you choose to take advantage of the 0% balance transfer offer, you may not be able to transfer a balance from a St.George, Bank of Melbourne, or Westpac credit card. Plus, it’s best to pay off the transferred balance before the offer period ends as the balance transfer rate reverts to a very high cash advance rate of 21.49% p.a.

Why should you choose this card?

With that covered, we can now talk more about the other features that make this card worthy of your attention.

As a cardholder, you can also benefit from up to 55 days interest-free on purchases, and add an additional cardholder at no extra charge. This is also hassle-free as it’s compatible with Apple Pay®, Google Pay™ and Samsung Pay™.

Shop with no worries with its Card Block, 24/7 fraud monitoring, Secure Online Shopping Service, and the BankSA Fraud Money Back Guarantee. In case of misplacing your card, Card Block will temporarily stop new transactions on your card for 15 days or until reactivated.

Other perks include access to My Offers Hub, Visa discounts and offers, and more.

For the cashback offer, is this ongoing forever when I use my new Vertigo card ? Do I have to apply every month to get the cashback amount or is it automatic based on the fact that I have purchased at the participating businesses ?

Hi Tracey, the current cashback promotion is valid until September 30th 2023 only. You’ll get 10% cashback (with a maximum of $400). Can you only earn the $400 cashback for purchases made in the first 180 days?
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    17 February 2023
Hi S, yes, as the cashback promotion is a limited time offer, you need to earn and spend the $400 cashback within 180 days of card approval. To fully take advantage of this offer, you need to use your card to pay for eligible purchases at participating supermarkets or for big ticket purchases to earn and accumulate the maximum $400 cashback amount faster. Other conditions apply to this promo offer so it’s best to contact BankSA directly at 13 13 76 for more information.

Is there a required minimum income for this card? Elsewhere I've noticed it says $15k/year, but nothing on this page..?

    12 July 2019
Hi Sarah, as a guide I would say you need at least 15k income. Though BankSA no longer provide any guidance on the minimum income required to apply. You just need to be over 18 + an Australian permanent resident.

    14 May 2019
Hi Shana, you will always have to have the annual fee unless its waived. For this offer, you pay no annual fee in the first year. Then if you continue to the keep the card. You will be charged the annual fee soon after the anniversary of having the card. If you are going to be a light credit card user then it may be worth getting a no annual fee card. 31 December 2018
Hi Aleashea, you need to have good credit to get approved for a new credit card. Therefore you should review your credit file and see what problems could be their that could affect your application. Approval will depend on a range of factors. I would like to tranfer credit card debt from my daughters name into mine, this has been jointly used for home purchases. Which banks allow this
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    26 October 2018
Hi Susan, no bank allows this. A balance transfer must be between the same legal person. Therefore only your daughter can balance transfer credit card debt in her name. A long way around could be for you to get a low rate personal loan. Pay out the credit card debt. That way the debt moves over to your name. Then you can look to get a balance transfer. I would suggest waiting around 6 months post the personal loan app. Citi are the only credit card issuer in Australia that will accept non-Citi personal loan debt for a balance transfer.

Hi Stephen, you don't need to be a customer to apply. If you made the minimum monthly payments for 2 years, then it would be around $200 a month.

Does this only wpply to other credit card debts or personal loans through a bank aswell?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    25 July 2017
Hi Alex, this is only for transferring up to 3 non-St George group credit card or store card debt. If you want to transfer personal loans then you need to look at a Citi Credit Card balance transfer offer. They are the only provider that accept non-Citi personal loan debt as all or part of the transfer.

Hi Roland, This is the card I'm pretty sure I will run with for my balance transfer. I'm wonder whats the best service to use to acquire a credit history report? Does having different address over the past 10 years affect my ability to get credit? Cheers Megan

    25 May 2017
Hi Megan, non of the banks provide any guide on how they score credit applications and this is always changing. Therefore there is no way of really knowing what they are looking for. The key things though are income v expenses, assets v liabilities and your credit history. You can always get a a copy of your credit report for free. There is no sense paying for this. http://www.mycreditfile.com.au/products-services/my-credit-file. I don't think moving around will have a massive impact. Best of luck with your application.

Hello Roland. I have a few things i'd like to consolidate. One of them is the remaining balance of ready credit loan from Citi and a commonwealth credit card balance. I'd prefer the 0% balance transfer for 18mths and the low purchase rate that BankSA is offering. Will they accept the balance transfer for the ready credit lone?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    25 November 2016
Hi Kat, you will not be able to transfer the Citi Ready Credit to any balance transfer offer in Australia. It is a line of credit and this would only be accepted by Citi themselves, if the debt was non-Citi. Therefore your only option on the Ready Credit debt would be to look at a lower rate personal loan (non-Citi) to pay it down. Then you could possibility look to transfer that loan to a Citi balance transfer. On the CBA debt, this is accepted by BankSA, subject to credit approval. Hope this makes sense, hit me up with any further questions.

Hi Roland, I am looking to transfer my existing balance from one credit card to another, it is $10500.00. I like the look of this credit card & what it has to offer. I am only looking at paying it off & not to use it for purchases. I like the interest rate & the interest free period. Would this be the more suitable card for me?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    25 July 2016
Hi Diane, this card is a great offer and has high credit limits that could accept the amount you are wanting to transfer, subject to credit approval. Your card debt you want to transfer needs to be non-St George Group. Best of luck with your application.

Hi there, I am looking to buy a car and need a card to transfer $10000. I have few queries.please assist 1) do i need to have the card before i buy the car ? 2) which card do you suggest to get 18 months and a less interest rate after that. Just in case i need couple of more months to pay. 3) A card on which Balance transfer can applied/ used later as well with new purchases. 4) what do we mean by 1% p.a. on purchases for 12 months? only 1% of the purchased amount will be applied on the year. Say spend $1000 so only $10 will paid as interest over the year? Regards PK
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    4 July 2016
Hi Puneet, 1) Yes - you would need to have the debt in place before your application to be able to make the transfer 2) Only Citi cards accept personal loan debt as part or all of the transfer. BankSA / St George group do not accept personal loan debt. Therefore I would suggest the Citi Rewards Platinum offer. 3) As long as you have available funds you can use it for purchases as well, though it is not recommended to make purchases on a balance transfer card as you receive no interest free days. 4) On this cards case, you have an intro rate on purchases. The interest still gets charged on the interest so it ends up more than 1% for the year, if you make the purchases straight away. Bottom line is its a great rate on purchases and a great balance transfer offer (for credit and store cards) with a very low standard interest / revert rate.

Hi Roland I have just received an unexpected TAX bill from last year for $20,000 can I transfer this debt to this card
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    29 June 2016
Hi David, I assume you have paid the tax debt on your current card? A transfer needs to be made at the time of application based on your current, in this case, non-St George group credit or store card debt (up to 3 cards). If so, then yes this Vertigo Platinum offer is a great deal and is possible to accept that kind of transfer subject to credit approval

Hi Karyn, you could apply for another card with say BankSA but you can only transfer non-St George group debt to this offer. Therefore if you have an e.g. NAB card, that you wish to transfer, then subject to credit approval, you could apply for this offer.

To whom it may concern, I am looking for a credit card where I can transfer the balance of my ANZ credit card and my personal loan, a total of $32000.00. This is to be paid within 14 month timeframe of the 0% transfer balnce rate. Cheers
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    20 August 2014
Hi John - for that type of balance, it would be best to go for a more premium card that offers a higher limit. Citibank take personal loan and credit card debt therefore their balance transfer sounds like the way to go. the Citi Rewards Card - this product has a 0% for 24 month currently with a 3% handling fee. Though the 3% fee is a one off and you don't pay any interest on it during the 24 month period. Therefore if you balance transferred 32k - the fee would be $960 - so your total BT would $32960 that you would need to pay off within 24 months. Let me know what you think and best of luck with your application. There are other Citibank offers but this one is probably most suitable based on the amount you want to transfer.
