First off, I have to say I’m impressed by NAB’s generous balance transfer offer. It’s one of the longest out there, and could be a huge win if you’re saddled with credit card debt.

I refer to these types of cards as a “financial tool” because they can help you get ahead, either with points, cashback or by paying off debt.
In this instance, the 24-month balance transfer deal is the big winner. It’s one of the longest around, and with a low $59 annual fee you’ll have even more cash to put towards repayments.
I’ve gone through the terms and conditions to give you a better snapshot of the balance transfer and the other big features, which I’ll explain first. But, it’s still a good idea to read the PDS and TMD for yourself.
0% p.a. baance transfer: You won’t pay interest on balances transferred from non-NAB credit cards for 24 months. This offer is available for new NAB Low Rate cardholders only.
What you need to know:
✔ You can transfer up to 90% of your credit limit.
✔ You’ll still get the 55 days interest-free on purchases if you pay your statement in full each month.
❌ A one-off fee of 3% of the transferred amount will be charged to your NAB credit card account. For example, if your balance is $3000 you’ll pay a $60 fee.
❌ After 24 months, any unpaid balance transfer amount will attract the variable cash advance rate, which is currently very high at 21.74% (and subject to change)
⚠ NAB allows transfers from most non-NAB cards, but also lists several brands that aren’t compatible with its transfer process. These include Bendigo Bank, ING, Latitude Finance, Great Southern Bank, Heritage Bank, Adelaide Bank, credit unions and Amex.
Low annual fee: The annual fee is very competitive at $59 per year (other cards with similar offers can be around $80+ per year) The low $1000 minimum credit limit. A lower credit limit helps keep a cap on your spending, and looks better to lenders if you're in the market for a loan. The low credit limit is a good bonus if you're a first-time credit card user, and want to set a 'safety limit' while working out how to use the card and build your credit score.

What’s not so great
Remember that any balance left unpaid after the 24-month interest-free period will be charged at the variable cash advance rate. Going from 0% interest to 21.74% p.a. is a real kick in the teeth.
⚡ A note on that: the minimum payment on your statement won’t be enough to pay off your transfer in full within 24 months. You’ll need to work out the monthly amount and pay that each month either manually or by automatic transfer.
Also, this is a low-cost card. Don’t expect flashy features and rewards, because it just doesn't have them. It’s mostly about low rates and the balance transfer offer.

Hi Ash, it’s not clear if you can transfer a balance from your husband's account to your account. Only a few banks allow it and as far as I know, NAB isn’t one of them. You might need to call NAB to ask specifically about your situation at 13 22 65. Thanks!

Hi Pauline. I'm looking for an interest-free balance transfer offer that allows the following: 1. Transfer of a personal loan (which is what I believe a Westpac Flexi loan/line of credit is identified as). 2. Eligible to temporary residents. I've been in Perth for 11 years and have a fiance from NZ, but this is usually a sticking point. I'm not sure if there's any way for my fiancee to be included in the process, considering the fact it would make things easier, it's just unfortunate that this line of credit was opened only under my name. Hi Kuda, only a few credit cards allow balance transfers from personal loans - Coles, Virgin Money, Qantas Money, Citi and Kogan. All those brands have cards with balance transfer offers, so it’s a matter of working out which one has the right length of 0% offer and annual fee for you. You would have to add your fiance as an additional cardholder, since joint accounts are rare - but, many brands need additional cardholders to be Australian residents. You might need to look for a few cards you like and call the provider to ask about extra cardholders and check if they can accept a BT from Westpac Flexi Loan. Hi Steven, you can compare a range of balance transfer cards to quickly compare some long term options. There are some like the NAB Low Rate that has 28 months interest-free on balance transfers and no annual fee the first year. Just remember you can’t transfer from a Citi card to another Citi card.
