As of 14th August 2014, Aussie no longer offers the Aussie Classic Low Rate MasterCard and Aussie Platinum Low Rate MasterCard to new customers.
Aussie is Australia’s largest non-bank provider. Among its offerings are a number of credit cards offered by MasterCard.
Aussie specialises in offering financial products to young families and people with poor credit. As well as credit cards Aussie offers personal loans, brokered mortgages, car loans and insurance. Its credit cards are advertised as low-cost cards. The four cards included low rates on their balance transfer offer, a low-interest rate on purchases, and a card with no annual fee.
Aussie prides itself on not having an extensive rewards programme, claiming they instead pass savings onto their customers. However, they include 3 “partner benefits” that are offered in conjunction with the card. MasterCard applause is a program that guarantees seating at various plays, concerts and sporting events. There is a discount programme called eDine which offers lower prices for restaurants, car hire, attractions and hotels throughout Australia and New Zealand. The eDine facility costs the cardholder $35. Finally, there is access to the cut price Aussie Wine Club that is operated by Cellarmasters.
MasterCard also offers additional security options including Aussie CardCover which is an insurance programme that covers the payments in the case of sickness, accident or unemployment. This comes at an additional cost which is worked out in relation to the balance.
Aussie opened in 1992 and expanded rapidly. Many of Aussie’s outlets are franchised although there are a growing number of directly owned outlets.
In 2009 Aussie brought Wizard Home Loans, another leading non-bank financial services provider who had a similar portfolio of clients and credit cards. This made them Australia’s largest non-banking financial services provider. The credit cards, which were offered through GE Money, are no longer offered.
