Looking for a prestige rewards card with plenty of perks? Touted as Bank of Melbourne’s ‘most rewarding credit card’, the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Signature Credit Card could be right up your alley.

It comes with an enticing introductory offer for new cardholders who apply and get approved by 30 April 2025 - 150,000 Bonus Points, discounted first year annual fee.

Not only does this card offer a pretty decent earn rate over two rewards programs, it also provides plenty of prestige extras and a whopping 150,000 bonus points as an introductory offer when you choose Amplify Rewards. Plus, enjoy a discounted first year annual fee ($96 in savings) If you want to earn Qantas points instead see the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Signature with Qantas. Want to find out more? Let’s dive in.

Point calculations are accurate as of 1 August 2024 but may be subject to change without notice. All routes may have additional taxes and charges. Check on the official Bank of Melbourne page for the updated calculations.

What we love...

First on the agenda is the intro offer. Quite simply, if you apply for the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Signature Credit Card and spend $12,000 in the first year on eligible purchases, you will be credited with 150,000 bonus Amplify points. This can get you up to $675 in eGift cards. To give you an idea, 11,100 Amplify Points can currently get you a $50 e-gift card from a range of merchants such as David Jones, Myer, Harvey Norman and many others.

Aside from bonus points, this introductory offer includes a discounted first year annual fee. New cardholders will be charged $199 card fee instead of the standard $295 - that's $96 in savings! The reduced first year card fee will be debited to your card account by the time you make your first transaction, and the full card fee will be debited annually, thereafter.

What’s not so great...

We really can’t talk about all the good bits without mentioning the bad bits. When it comes to the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Signature Credit Card, it’s worth bearing in mind the card has a significant annual fee, and relatively high rates of interest on purchases and cash advances.

To be eligible for the 150,000 bonus Amplify Points, you will need to spend at least $12,000 on eligible purchases in the first year. This is fine if you were planning on spending that amount anyway – and you pay it off before it attracts interest – but not so good if you are only spending to get the points in return.

Also, just note that you won't be eligible for the bonus points offer if you currently hold or have held an Amplify, Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card issued by Bank of Melbourne, St.George or BankSA in the last 12 months.

Why should you choose this card?

Choosing this card should come down to a balance of value. Do you pay out more than you get in return? Or is the outlay worth it in overall value? To help you weigh that up, here are some more of the card’s features that you might find beneficial.

As a cardholder, you will be given two Priority Pass lounge visits per year to any of more than 1300 participating airport lounges worldwide regardless of the class of travel or airline you're flying.

Cardholders also benefit from complimentary retail and travel insurances such as interstate flight inconvenience insurance, up to 6 months overseas travel insurance, extended warranty, up to 4 months purchase security cover, and transit accident insurance; automatic membership to Visa’s Luxury Hotel Collection; exclusive concierge services; up to 55 days interest free on purchases; and one free additional cardholder.

Overall Rating

A prestige rewards card offering a great earn rate over two rewards programs, an array of features and extras, up to 150,000 in bonus points, a discounted first year annual fee.

I credited more than my card limit to my account and want to reverse it. What fees will I be charged?
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    28 March 2024
Hi De, best bet is to contact the bank directly, rather than trying to do a withdrawal that might be construed as a cash advance. All banks handle overpayments on credit cards differently. BoM may be able to organise a reimbursement of the overpaid amount to your bank account. Thanks De!

I have a current amplify signature card. How do I activate the international travel insurance for an upcoming trip? Will it cover the two card holders and our 4 year old daughter?
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    28 March 2023
Hi Kate, you (the primary cardholder), your spouse and daughter will be eligible for the complimentary International Travel Insurance if you meet all the criteria outlined on their Policy Information Booklet. This does include spending at least $500 on prepaid travel costs and charging these costs on your card account. Meeting all the eligibility criteria will activate your insurance and you, your spouse and dependants will be automatically covered. For specific information about the insurance cover, you may reach out to Allianz Global Assistance (BOM’s underwriter) at 1800 091 710. Enjoy your family trip!

    20 December 2021
HI Khen, if it’s a new card, you need to activate it and set your PIN so you can start using your card. Also, the Amplify Rewards membership is already inclusive of the card benefits you have. As to check for your Amplify points, you can do this via the Bank of Melbourne’s app or website. If you wish to switch to earning Qantas points, Amplify allows cardholders to switch between programs whenever they want. Hope this has helped.

Hi William, thanks for your question. We checked the bank's site for you and found this in the Terms and Conditions - “You'll receive 100,000 bonus Amplify Points when you spend a minimum amount of $12,000 on eligible purchases on the credit card within the first 12 months from card approval.” If you’d like to contact Bank of Melbourne to chat with them directly about your bonus points situation, you can reach them on 13 22 66.

When are the bonus points paid? If I spend $12,000.00 on eligible purchases in the first 6 months do I have to wait until the end of the first year, or do I receive the 130,000 bonus points within a few weeks? If so, could I earn/claim the 130,000 bonus points for the first year and cancel the card before year 2 (not paying card fee for that 2nd year and forfeiting the 70,000 bonus points for the 2nd year)?

What do you regard as "eligible purchases" Does this mean bills of every type as well as purchases. Thank you.

    16 July 2019
Hi Jane, most purchases are eligible. Some examples that are not include bank fees, balance transfer and cash advances. Some bpays may not be eligible if they merchant considers the payment a cash advance. You would need to check with the company you are paying how they treat credit card payments.

    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    3 January 2017
Hi Mark, you will need to choose a balance transfer offer outside of the St George Group. A balance transfer needs to be between different banks. So if you are looking to transfer Vertigo debt an option could be the Virgin No Annual Fee or NAB offer (plus 3% BT fee).
