The BankSA Amplify Credit Card

If you love your credit card but you’re not so keen on the rewards program it offers, it may be worth your while to check out the BankSA Amplify Credit Card to see if it’s right for you.

With some pretty decent features on the table, the BankSA Amplify Credit Card is a rewards card that lets you choose between two rewards programs, so you can really make the most of your credit card spending.

Want to find out more? Come with us as we dig deeper into what’s on offer, to see if this lovely little card really is the right option for you.

What we love...

While most cardholders probably choose the BankSA Amplify Credit Card for its rewards programs and extra features, it now has something else to offer.

Now, on to some of the card’s other redeeming features. Unlike many other rewards cards, the BankSA Amplify Credit Card lets you choose between two rewards programs, to earn either Amplify Rewards Points or Qantas Points.

If you opt for the Qantas program, you could earn 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases, with no points capping. On purchases made with Qantas partners, you could even earn double points – once with your card and once with the program partner.

These points could be spent on merchandise, gift vouchers or experiences in the Qantas Store, or redeemed with Qantas or one of its 35 partner airlines for flights and upgrades.

If you’d prefer to be on the Amplify program, you could earn 1 point per $1 spent on eligible purchases, again with no points capping.

Your points could be used to buy gift cards, retail vouchers, homewares or tech, or you could redeem them on frequent flyer programs such as Malaysia Airlines’ Enrich and Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer programs.

What’s not so great...

While there is a lot to love on this card, there are certain drawbacks new cardholders will have to keep in mind. For example, on the Qantas program, the earn rate provides just 1 Qantas Point per $2 spent. That means you’ll have to spend big to see your points total grow.

Why should you choose this card?

With that in mind, you could make this card work for you. You’ll pay a reasonable annual fee for a rewards card, and you can benefit from extra features such as up to 55 days interest free on purchases, and one free additional cardholder.

As with any credit card, it’s all about balance. You simply need to weigh up what you’re getting out of the card in features and rewards, compared to what you are putting in, in fees and interest.

Overall Rating

An affordable rewards card that provides two rewards programs to choose from and a few handy features.

I chose Qantas points but you can also choose Amplify points instead. Gives you free Qantas membership. Good for balance transfers. Annual fee is cheap for a rewards card. Gave my partner a card because it was free and he can help me earn more points.

Hi Robert, this offer is clear. There is an intro rate on purchases of 0% for the first 14 months from card approval. You will still need to make the minimum monthly payments of 2% of the balance. Even in the interest free period. Sometimes the statement may not fully represent the offer that has been received. If you have concerns give BankSA Amplify credit card customer service a call on 13 13 76.

Hi Charli, there is no minimum period that you are required to keep a credit card. You can cancel at any time as long as you can pay off the balance in full.

Roland I have a BOQ Platinum card with over 800,000 points. How can I find out where and how I can fly to. Their web site is not particularly user friendly. Seems that I have to book a flight to get any info.

Hi Elizabeth, you go to the rewards site (which I think you have found) https://www.boqrewards.com/welcome.htm. 800,000 points sounds like a good amount. The amount of points you use for flights will vary all the time depending on availability, time or year and naturally destination. Think of somewhere you would like to go, then do a search for the trip to see how much it costs. I find that looking 6 months+ into the future get cheaper flights.

Can the Credit Card balances of Westpac, Bank of Melbourne and CBA (3 cards) transferred ?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

Hi Manel, BOM is part of the St George group therefore cannot be transferred. CBA and even Westpac (even though Westpac own BankSA but they are issued seperately) are possible subject to credit approval. Based on your 3 cards that you wish to transfer (a balance transfer needs to be between different banks), I would look at the NAB range of 0% offers that are in market. Citi issued cards could also be an option such as the Virgin no annual fee.
