The BankSA Amplify Platinum Credit Card - Qantas

Earning points on the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, the BankSA Amplify Platinum Credit Card offers great everyday earning and a nice selection of platinum perks, including complimentary insurance cover. Cardholders can enjoy all that, plus enticing introductory offers - up to 50,000 bonus Qantas Points (minimum spend applies),plus a discounted first-year annual fee of $99.

Point calculations are accurate as of 1 August 2024 but may be subject to change without notice. All routes may have additional taxes and charges. Check on the official BankSA page for the updated calculations.

What we love...

Looking first to the card’s introductory offer, the BankSA Amplify Platinum Credit Card is currently offering up to 50,000 bonus Qantas Points to new cardholders who apply and are approved by 30 April 2025. To be eligible for this nice little bonus, simply spend $3,000 on eligible purchases within 90 days of card approval to earn 50,000 points.

Once you meet that minimum spend, your bonus points will be credited to your account within 12 weeks. You are then free to do as you like with them. Perhaps you want to jet away, redeeming 31,500 Qantas Points to fly from Perth to Singapore, one way. Or maybe it’s time for a shopping spree. For 51,850 Qantas Points, you could get your hands on a $250 digital gift card for JB Hi-Fi.

Putting bonus points aside, the BankSA Amplify Platinum Credit Card makes everyday earning easy. Allowing you to earn points on the incredibly popular Qantas program, the card keeps it simple with an earn rate of 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 on all eligible purchases capped at $100,000 per year (Bonus Qantas Points are excluded in the cap). You can also earn extra points on Qantas purchases – once with your card and once with the program partner.

With a host of Qantas rewards at your fingertips, you could choose to redeem your points for flights and upgrades with Qantas and its plentiful airline partners, pick up a tipple or two from Qantas Wine, or shop online at the Qantas Store, swapping those hard-earned points for kitchen appliances, sports equipment, tech or gift cards.

Last but not least, is the card’s annual fee. For a platinum card, the BankSA Amplify Platinum Credit Card has a fairly low annual fee. While it may not offer some of the more exclusive features offered on certain high-end platinum cards, it does have a reasonable earn rate and some nice extras.

What’s not so great...

While it may have an affordable annual fee, it’s worth pointing out that there are other cards that offer higher Qantas Frequent Flyer points earn rates and bonus points, or the selection of platinum extras. So if these offer value to you, that little bit extra in annual fees may be worthwhile.

In terms of interest, this card has a relatively high purchase rate, so it’s best to avoid interest payments altogether by clearing your balance month-to-month. You may also note that there is a 3% foreign transaction fee, so the value of any points you earn on overseas purchases may be reduced by that cost.

Why should you choose this card?

If you want a card that allows you to earn Qantas Points, but doesn’t cost over the odds in annual fees, the BankSA Amplify Platinum Credit Card may be for you. You can add one additional cardholder to earn points faster, and you can benefit from a number of excellent features.

These include extended warranty insurance, and travel insurance on trips up to three months, covering you, your spouse, and your dependent children. Of course, certain eligibility requirements apply, so be sure to read the PDS before you travel.

Overall Rating

Keeping it simple, the BankSA Amplify Platinum Credit Card offers a decent earn rate on the Qantas program, up to 50,000 bonus Qantas Points, a discounted first year annual fee, plus some great platinum perks, including complimentary insurance covers.

Hi Pauline again. I have Banksa amplify Qantas credit card. I apply to receive 60K points bonus. I spent over $3000 in the three month but just realised that council doesn't count. I would like to ask for extension but I don't know where. Would you be able to help me with it? My card was approved 6.1.2023, so it is just out of three months. But I am nearly on the target. I have a lot traveling this year and I really would appreciate extension. However, it was my mistake for not knowing. Thank you kindly, Hana Kavan

Hi Pauline. I applied for Amplife Qantas credit card and have to spent $3000 in the first 3 months. I just learned that Council doesn't count into the speending. What else doesn't count? Vouchers? Airbnb? Thank you for your help. Cheers, Hana

Hi Hana, I’m sorry to hear that. I get asked this a lot, and unfortunately, credit card issuers do not provide a specific list of eligible transactions. However, typically, eligible transactions refer to your everyday “retail” purchases such as groceries, meals at restaurants, and petrol for your car. On the other hand, card issuers are very forthcoming with the transactions that don’t earn points. You’ll find that transactions such as cash equivalent transactions and government-related transactions are not considered eligible, as stated on their official website.

In regards to the Amplified rewards card with the bonus Qantas points, if I pay a bill such as lumo or simply energy on their website, will this count as part of the $3000 spend limit to qualify for the Qantas bonus points?
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    9 December 2021
Hi Nigel, we checked both the Lumo and Simply Energy sites and they both offer payment via credit card. Keep in mind that BPAY or similar transactions (such as Post Billpay) won’t count as eligible transactions. Hope this has helped you out!

Question relating to the 60,000 bonus qantas points when creating this Bank SA Amplify Platinum Credit Card., If I spend $3k with 90 days of opening this card for the local council, will I receive this bonus points? Secondly, if I pay a bill ($3k for council rates) through paypal via aust post post bill, will I receive this bonus points? Your answer will be appreciated. Regards, Nigel

    7 December 2021
Hi Nigel, in order to earn points, payments made should be classified as ‘eligible’. These are payments you make for your groceries, restaurant bill, petrol, etc. Unfortunately, using the card to pay for a local council will not earn points as it’s included in BankSA’s list of transactions that are ineligible. If you’d like to earn points on council spend, albeit at a lower rate, you can compare the range of Amex credit cards.

Do the Qantas bonus points come into your Qantas frequent flyer account seperate to your points earned from spending on the card (eg if you spent $4000, you would get 2000 points and would have met the criteria for the bonus. Do you get 62000 points appear in your account or 2000 and then 60000). Thanks in advance

Hi Kai, they tend to be credited monthly. Therefore when the bonus points are put in your Qantas Frequent Flyer account. They should included with your monthly points earned.

When do you receive the Qantas bonus points? I know the terms say ‘up to 12 weeks’, but is it normally in the statement following having met your spend requirement?

    17 August 2020
Hi Kai, there is no real normal period for payment. I sometimes receive bonus points very quickly (within a week or 2). Other times it just takes longer. Sorry I cannot be specific with when you will receive.

Not understanding how you say this card doesn't offer the Qantas Points when I'm clearly reading that it does offer Qantas Points.

Hi Denise, this is definitely the Qantas points earning version of the BankSA Amplify Platinum. Maybe you mis-entrupped some information on the page. I have reviewed it as see that we mark the lower earn rate of 0.5 points per $ as a con. I will update this to make it more clear. If you look at the HSBC Platinum Qantas, it has a 1 Qantas point per $ earn rate. With no annual fee first year and lower 2nd year annual fee than the Amplify. Though this Amplify Platinum offer comes with 60k Bonus Qantas Points sign up. This is a real sweeter and may push you for this card.

What are eligible transactions? And what are not eligible transactions?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    10 July 2019
Hi David, Qantas Points are not earned on cash advances and balance transfers or in other specified circumstances (according the the terms). Bottom line stuff like bank fees is not eligible. Petrol, holidays, any normal purchases that are not cash advances are eligible. Typically BPAY payments are not eligible.
