What I love about the American Express Velocity Platinum Card and the card benefits*

There’s a bit of pizzazz to this card. It’s got premium features that make travel a little more ooh la la and earns Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Credits that can help you earn Silver Membership and beyond. I’ll break down each feature to give you a full picture, starting with the bonus Velocity Points for new Amex cardholders and then moving on to the bevy of travel benefits.

Hi I have a Corporate Amex can I still apply for the American Express Velocity Platinum offer? Im also interested in what qualifies as Eligible purchases -$3000? thanks A

    6 May 2024
Hi A, If you have a Corporate Amex, you can still apply for the American Express Velocity Platinum offer. When it comes to eligible purchases though, card issuers like American Express don't usually have a published list. Generally, eligible purchases include everyday retail transactions like buying groceries, filling up your car, dining out, and similar expenses.

Hi is paying for an international cruise an eligible transaction - just checking as looking at the Amex Express Velocity Card and it mentions that international conversion is not eligible. Thanks Looking for best rewards as a Velocity member

Hi Deborah! An international cruise sounds amazing! The terms say “fees and charges for traveller’s cheques and foreign currencies” are ineligible for points, which is referring to currency conversion fees and other costs of exchanging foreign currency. It doesn’t specify that overseas transactions are ineligible, but does say you’ll earn points per Australian dollar (after conversion). To double check you can call Amex directly. Thanks Deborah!

Hi, wondering what is the card limit ie $15,000???
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    31 January 2024
Hi Janette, the minimum credit limit you can be approved for the American Express Velocity Platinum card is $3,000. The credit card application is subject to Amex’s review and approval, and the approved credit limit depends on factors such as your credit history, annual income, assets, liabilities and many other factors that Amex assesses.

Hi Iggy, I’m just going to reply to your 3 comments with this one for clarity. So, yes, you can request to close any of your credit card accounts at any time. However, please keep in mind that you must settle any outstanding balance (including fees and interest) on the account before it can be fully closed.

Hello Pauline, I’ve been reading on credit cards a lot lately. I’m already using Flybuys for Velocity Points. And travels each year to France and several times a year domestically. I’m after a credit card for maximum travel points that I could also use overseas. It doesn’t seems to have one that does frequent travel program and 0% international fee. Should I sign up for two different cards? One for australia for frequent flyer and one for international travel? Thank you in advance for your help.

    27 February 2023
Hi there Solene, Using flybuys to earn Velocity Points is a great way to boost your points balance, so well done on that 👏! Credit providers usually offer 0% FX fees or rewards points with their credit cards. There are some cards that offer an increased point per dollar earning on international spend, but they’re few and far between. Browse a range of no foreign transaction fee credit cards and our Velocity Points credit cards, read the reviews to learn more and utilise our “save card” functionality to compare them side by side. Keep an eye out for any extras with the cards such as complimentary travel insurance, lounge passes and bonus point offers. Happy travels!

Hi Peter, Amex has an interactive map where you can check out your destinations. in your cities. It looks like you can go all the way up to the Sunshine Coast, as west as Adelaide, and the entire east coast even down to Hobart.

    14 March 2022
Hi Michael, Amex sets out pretty stringent criteria for their credit cards. If you don’t meet them it wouldn’t be worth applying, as you’ll probably be knocked back and end up with a negative mark on your credit file. There are a range of velocity points earning credit cards on the market, and while the Amex Velocity Platinum is a powerful card, it definitely pays to compare what else is out there.
