The Bank of Melbourne Vertigo Credit Card

While the Bank of Melbourne Vertigo Credit Card may not be jam-packed with prestige features, it does offer an enticing 10% cashback or up to $500 total at selected leading supermarkets & petrol outlets with the added bonus of having a low purchase rate plus, 6.99% p.a. interest on balance transfers for 12 months.

Intrigued? Read on to find out all the need-to-know on this card, so you can work out whether this everyday low rate card is right for you.

What we love...

This card comes with a pretty awesome 10% cashback or a total of up to $500 when you apply for the Bank of Melbourne Vertigo credit card by 30 April 2025 and shop at any eligible leading stores & petrol outlets within 180 days from card approval. Participating supermarkets include Coles, Woolworths, IGA, Harris Farm, and Aldi. The 10% cashback will be paid as a statement credit to your Vertigo credit card account within 30 days each time you spend. Existing St George, Bank of Melbourne or Bank SA customers who currently hold a Vertigo credit card, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer.

Aside from the cashback offer though, there is plenty more to love about this card.

Designed to provide all the great features of the classic Vertigo card, the Bank of Melbourne Vertigo Credit Card can also help you keep costs down. This card offers a low variable purchase rate and an intro offer of 6.99% p.a. interest on balance transfers for 12 months.

What’s not so great...

As with most things in life, with the good, you must also take the bad. If you choose to apply for the cashback offer, you can only take advantage of the 6.99% p.a. interest on balance transfers for 12 months. The 0% p.a. balance transfer promotion will not be available to you. Factors to take note of with this card mostly involve the balance transfer offer. As this card is simple as it is, insurance covers are also not offered.

If you need help to pay off your existing credit card balances, you can opt to take advantage of Bank of Melbourne Vertigo Credit Card's 32-month 0% p.a. balance transfer offer.

It's worth noting that you may not be able to transfer an existing balance from a St.George, BankSA, or Westpac credit card, and keep in mind that any balance left unpaid after the intro period ends will revert to the higher cash advance rate.

Why should you choose this card?

If you want a credit card with a convenient cashback but one that you won’t pay through the nose for, this may indeed be the card for you.

Aside from the introductory offer and the features already mentioned, some other extras you could benefit from include its low minimum credit limit, up to 55 days interest-free on purchases, and a free additional cardholder.

Overall Rating

A low rate everyday card with an enticing set of features, up to $500 cashback plus, 6.99% p.a. interest on balance transfers for 12 months.

Hi ! May I know which patrol outlets are participating? Alex
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    14 August 2023
Hi Alex, there is no comprehensive list available for participating supermarkets and petrol stations. However, based on their terms, the majority of major and independent supermarkets and petrol stations are part of the program. Those not categorised as Supermarket, Grocers, and Service Station merchants are excluded. This includes outlets like Coles Express, Costco, Metropolitan Fresh, and wholesale supermarkets.

I had applied for this card in September2021 as $300 rebate was a good offer. Card was approved then and I have done the spend of $4000 within 120days to meet the criteria of the offer. However now bank of Melbourne credit card team is in denial that there was any such offer. They have researched on their end and so far they do not agree that there was any such offer in 2021 on their side with the new vertigo credit card application. I have referred them to creditcard.com.au website and they are not taking that as proof. Any suggestions of How I can deal with the Bank of Melbourne to honor that this was valid offer on their end when I had applied for the card?

Hi there and thanks for your question. You can use the $300 at your discretion. The $300 cashback will be paid to you as a statement credit account within 60 days of hitting the minimum spend criteria. Hope this has helped.

Hi Guys, Previously I got St George Amplify Platinum which was closed around 3 months ago. If I get an approval of Vertigo Platinum, can I get the $300 cashback ? Seem to me, the fine print of the condition is saying not available for ex customer of Vertigo Credit Card only? I am not sure. Thanks to clarify. Cheers,
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    16 March 2021
Hi B, you are correct the Vertigo Platinum cashback offer is available for new Vertigo customers only. Existing customers who currently hold a Vertigo Platinum card, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer. So holding / having held an Amplify card should not disqualify you from the offer. If you want to double check, it doesn't hurt to give them a call before applying. I hope that helps.

Would like to know if there are any balance transfer cards that would allow me to transfer 80% of my credit card limit to my bank account
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    13 February 2020
Hi Vin, no you cannot balance transfer out to cash so to speak. You need to be transferring debt. If you have debt that can be paid via bpay. Then its likely that this Virgin Flyer offer could work. They do have a cheque to self ability on the balance transfer.

hi, I am interested in the balance transfer, do you only take on 80% of my credit card transfer?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    10 September 2019
Hi Michelle, its a bit confusing. When the bank is talking about 80%. This is off your new cards credit limit. Nothing to do with your old card. So if you get approved for a 10k limit with the Bank of Melbourne Vertigo Platinum. Then you can transfer up to 8k to the card. You could still transfer 100% of your debt. As long as it is up to or below 80% of your new assigned credit limit.

Can i balance a transfer over into a card in my name from a CC with my husband as primary card holder?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    18 June 2019
Hi Sonia, a balance transfer must be between the same legal person. Therefore you cannot balance transfer your debt over to your husbands balance transfer. A longer option could be for your husband to get a low rate personal loan (non-Citi). Use this to pay out your credit card debt. Effectively taking over your credit card debt. Then he could look to balance transfer that loan debt. Citi are the only issuer in Australia that will accept non-Citi loan debt. This then could be an option - Citi Rewards Credit Card/

I currently have a 10k visa can I transfer 9k into a 15k credit card with you at the 0%BT fee ?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    25 February 2019
Hi Denise, that is possible as long as your current credit card debt is not with St George group (BOM, BankSA, St George). Though there is a BT of 2% with this card that gets added onto the balance transfer amount. You still have 26 months to pay off the debt at 0%. Have a look at the HSBC Platinum. It has 0% for 22 months with no balance transfer fee.

Hi, can you please tell what does that mean. 0% p.a. for 24 months on balance transfers requested at card application. Variable cash advance rate applies after the promotional period.
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    21 June 2018
Hi Jamal, you can move any of your current credit card debt to this offer. You can transfer debt from up to 3 non-St George group issued credit or store cards. This is only available at the time of application. During the application process you will put in the details on the cards you wish to transfer. Any successful amount you transfer will attract 0% interest for the first 24 months. Any unpaid amount of the balance transfer at the end of this intro period. Will revert to the cash advance rate which is over 20%. With a balance transfer you should plan to pay the debt off during the intro period to avoid interest.
