The ING Orange One Rewards Platinum Card

Platinum cards can be pretty exciting, offering fancy features and platinum perks that make shopping with a credit card that bit more fun. However, after comparing platinum card options, you’ll no doubt notice that they come in all shapes and sizes, with some offering no more than the basics, and others offering so many perks you’ll feel like royalty. However, not many of these credit cards offer cashback at all

On the simpler end of the scale is the ING Orange One Rewards Platinum Card. While it won’t knock your socks off with the features it has to offer, it also won’t knock you down with the annual fee it charges. As a fairly basic platinum offering, this a card with a few nice perks, a relatively low purchase rate, and a very affordable annual fee.

What we love...

Rated Australia’s most recommended bank in a 2017 Nielsen poll, ING claims to have reinvented the way Australians bank, by delivering simple, straightforward and good value products. In essence, this is what it has done with the ING Orange One Rewards Platinum Card. This straightforward option may not be the most exciting platinum card on the block, but it still has plenty to offer.

First up, its cashback feature. The ING Orange One Rewards Platinum Card allows cardholders to earn 1% cashback on eligible purchases made using the card, up to $30 per month. Basically working to give you money back on your card spend, this feature could save you up to $360 per year.

Next up, insurance. If you are approved for a credit limit of $6,000 or more, you will receive complimentary international travel insurance that covers the cardholder, their spouse and their dependants when travelling overseas. The card must be used to pay for the overseas travel fare and accommodation, charging at least $500 of the total cost of each person’s fare. Other conditions apply, so be sure to read the PDS in full.

Last up, money-saving. Unlike plenty of other platinum cards, the ING Orange One Rewards Platinum Card offers a relatively low interest rate on purchases. And, as an added bonus, cardholders can manage large purchases with a monthly installment feature, choosing their pre-set terms on a much lower rate of interest.

It’s also worthwhile looking into ING’s International ATM fee rebate, as well as its foreign currency conversion fee waiver if you want to save some money. You can find out more about this in the card’s small print.

What’s not so great...

If you are looking for wall-to-wall features, this is not the card for you. There are plenty of other platinum cards that offer more in the way of features that may be better suited to your needs, but you should be willing to pay for them. However, if you understand that this is a basic platinum card with a relatively low purchase rate and annual fee, you should have very little to complain about.

Why should you choose this card?

While this card is certainly not bursting with extras, that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few features on the ING Orange One Rewards Platinum Card that you may find useful. Mobile payments using Apple Pay, and Google Pay can make purchases more streamlined, while automatic repayments make paying off your card at the end of the month that much easier.

Notifications make it easier to keep track of your spending, ensuring you don’t go over your budget, while up to 45 days interest free on purchases can help you save on interest when you clear your balance at the end of each statement period.

Overall Rating

A simple platinum card offering cashback and travel insurance, a relatively low purchase rate and annual fee, and the ability to manage big purchases on a low interest monthly installment plan.

Hi Pauline, Could you please confirm if ING Platinum offers Qantas rewards? Also, if the credit card annual fee is covered under home loan package?
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    28 March 2023
Hi Jo, short answer is that the ING Platinum Credit Card doesn't let you earn Qantas Points. On the flipside it does offer a cashback rebate that can be helpful in offsetting the annual fee. If you want to earn Qantas Points, you can use our comparison tool to see the various Qantas Frequent Flyer credit cards available. It also looks like the Orange Advantage package doesn’t waive the annual fee for the credit card.

I have a Orange one credit car with only a $1000 limit. It was reduced to this when we had our housing loans. We no longer have those loans and want to travel overseas and would like to increase our limit. How do we do this.

Beware, do not use ING credit cards if you are planning on utilising the features and then using a balance transfer option from another provider to pay off the Credit card. The only way to pay off the card is via your ING transaction account. Very poor.

Im looking for a low intrest credit card with frequent flyer rewards and i have to transfer a balance from another card
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    3 August 2022
Hi Kate, thanks for your question. Balance transfer cards and frequent flyer cards fall into two different buckets. Balance transfers are for paying down your debt, and frequent flyer cards are for earning points. There are some cards that do offer both, but when you spend on this card, you’ll get no interest free days. If you’re dead set on earning points and transferring your debt, consider comparing cards like the Qantas Premier Platinum Credit Card, the Citi Premier Qantas Credit Card, the NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Credit Card or the Citi Rewards Credit Card – Velocity Points Offer to name a few. You can read our expert reviews, save the cards to your shortlist and compare them side by side to make an informed decision. Hope this has helped.

Does the ING Platinum Credit Card provide Qantas flying points?
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    12 April 2022
Hi Ray, the ING Platinum Credit Card unfortunately doesn't earn Qantas Points. The ING card offers a cashback rebate that can be handy to offset the annual fee. If you’re keen on earning Qantas points, you can use our comparison tool to check the different Qantas Frequent Flyer credit cards we have access to.

I couldn't see where you mention the "Google Pay" "Apple Pay" status of the cards. The Orange One Platinum presently is not support on Google Pay - WITH NO TIMEFRAME GIVEN TO IMPLEMENT. This has a major impact on those looking to switch from an existing "Google Pay" compliant card. Do you know when this card will be "Accepted"?

    28 June 2019
Hi Matt, I do not personally know of any timeframes for these features coming on-board. ING are not a participating bank as yet. Therefore it could be sometime before Apple or Google pay comes to ING cards.

We are with ing banking (everyday card+home loan), we have a Westpac credit card, which we pay out in full each month. We would like to change to an ing credit card (keep accounting simple), however, will the $30 cash back continue for the foreseeable future, also we are travelling oversea more do both cards have the insurance and no foreign transaction fees?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    3 December 2018
Hi Gavin, I have not heard anything from ING that they will discontinue the cash back. Though as you see this is limited to $30 a month so it is not huge. It is possible if you are eligible to get no foreign transaction fees. You just need to make sure you meet the requirements. With your current home loan as well with ING this might automatically make you eligible. There is overseas travel insurance with the ING Orange One Platinum credit card.

I currently have a Coles MasterCard with no annual fees. What benefit would I get by changing to the Orange One Credit Card.
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    15 March 2018
Hi Glenda, this ING Orange One Platinum has a $149 annual fee. The benefit of this card is up to $30 cash back a month. Therefore if you pay it off in full each month and receive the maximum cash back. You can be ahead $211 at the end of the year. This card also comes with overseas travel insurance which is useful when travelling plus. You can get no foreign transaction fees if you qualify. Overall you need to look at how much you spend and your repayment habits to decide what card is right for you.
