Complete Guide to the NAB Rewards Program

With no classic card in its line-up, NAB Rewards instead focuses on the higher earn potential of its Platinum and Signature cards. The program itself is appealingly flexible, with redemption options ranging from gift cards and merchandise, to cashback, charity donations, and conversions to a nice selection of Frequent Flyer partners.

  💳   Earning

  • On the NAB Rewards Platinum Card, you will earn:
    • 3 NAB Rewards Points per $1 on international spending and purchases at Webjet
    • 2 NAB Rewards Points per $1 at major department stores
    • 1 NAB Rewards Point per $1 everywhere else

100,000 bonus Points – 80,000 bonus Points when you spend $1,000 on everyday purchases within the first 60 days of account opening and 20,000 bonus Points when you keep your card open for over 12 months (worth $480 in gift cards)*

  • On the NAB Rewards Signature Card, you will earn:
    • 3.75 NAB Rewards Points per $1 on international spending and purchases at Webjet
    • 2.5 NAB Rewards Points per $1 at major department stores
    • 1.25 NAB Rewards Points per $1 everywhere else

The monthly fee is $24/month. You will receive up to 180,000 NAB Rewards bonus Points on a new NAB Rewards Signature Card when you keep your card open for over 12 months. Points will be awarded on a tiered basis: 130,000 bonus Points when you spend $3,000 in the first 60 days + 50,000 bonus Points after 12 months.

  🛒   Redeeming

Redemption options on NAB Rewards include:

  • Buy travel via Webjet to redeem your points for any available seat, on any airline, at any time, including sale fares. There are no additional charges for fees or taxes. With this option, 60,000 NAB Rewards Points gives you $300 to spend with Webjet.
  • Transfer to partner rewards programs:
    • Asia Miles 3:1 (where 3,000 NAB Rewards Points equal 1,000 Asia Miles)
    • Velocity 2:1
    • Air New Zealand Airpoints 200:1
    • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer 3:1
    • Flybuys 1:1

  • Shop for merchandise and gift cards (where 9,620 NAB Rewards Points can be redeemed for a $50 gift card).
  • Opt for cashback onto your credit card or top up your NAB bank account (where 1,250 NAB Rewards Points equal $5 cashback).
  • Donate to charity (where 7,690 NAB Rewards Points can be redeemed for a $50 donation).

  💰   Value

Time to check out the value on offer. Note, we will focus on a higher spend on these cards as they are higher tier cards with higher annual fees.

NAB Rewards Platinum Card (earn 3, 2 or 1 points per $1 depending on spend type, $195 annual fee, concierge and insurances, bonus points).

  • On a monthly spend of $5,000 (outside of international, Webjet and department store spending), you would earn 5,000 points each month, or 60,000 points per year, equal to $240 in cashback value, or $311 in gift card value.

Factoring in the bonus points on offer, you would earn 80,000 points in the first year, equal to over $240 in cashback value, or $390 in gift card value.
  • On a monthly spend of $10,000 (outside of international, Webjet and department store spending), you would earn 10,000 points each month, or 120,000 points per year, equal to $480 in cashback value, or $622 in gift card value.

Factoring in the bonus points on offer, you would earn 90,000 points in the first year, equal to over $480 in cashback value, or $933 in gift card value.

NAB Rewards Signature Card (earn 3.75, 2.5 or 1.25 points per $1 depending on spend type, $295 annual fee, concierge and insurances, intro bonus points plus additional points after 12 months).

  • On a monthly spend of $5,000 (outside of international, Webjet and department store spending), you would earn 6,250 points each month, or 75,000 points per year, equal to $300 in cashback value, or $390 gift card value.

Factoring in the 90,000 intro bonus points, you would earn 165,000 points in the first year, equal to $660 in cash back value, or $857 in gift card value (additional bonus points only available after keeping the card for 12 months and paying another annual fee).
  • On a monthly spend of $10,000 (outside of international, Webjet and department store spending), you would earn 12,500 points each month, or 150,000 points per year, equal to $600 in cashback value, or $780 in gift card value.

Factoring in the 90,000 intro bonus points, you would earn 240,000 points in the first year, equal to $960 in cash back value, or $1,247 in gift card value (additional bonus points only available after keeping the card for 12 months and paying another annual fee).

  ⚖️   Verdict

You could enjoy a nice return on a higher spend, but it would be beneficial to boost your earn potential by spending in the higher earn categories of department store, overseas and Webjet purchases. If you decide to keep the card past the first year, you could benefit from another bonus points boost, providing additional value into that second year.
