The Hume Bank Clear Visa Credit Card

Earning cashback rewards, the Hume Bank Clear Visa Credit Card allows cardholders to earn something back on their card spending, without having to opt in to a complicated rewards program. With a fairly low interest rate, the card offers further opportunity to save money by waiving the annual fee for cardholders who meet a minimum annual spend.

What we love...

Some credit card rewards programs require serious effort just to get the gist of how they work. For those who don’t bother putting in the time to understand them, these programs can end up offering less value. Considering rewards cards typically have a higher annual fee, understanding how to squeeze value out of them becomes even more important.

The Hume Bank Clear Visa Credit Card offers an alternative, keeping it simple with an easy-to-understand cashback rewards system. How does it work? For every $1 you spend on your card both in Australia and overseas, you will earn 1 Loyalty Point. Then, for every 400 Loyalty Points you earn, you will get $1 in cashback rewards to spend as you like.

If you sit down and work out that return, it’s hardly mind-blowing. An annual spend of $10,000 will offer $25 back in rewards. But, if you compare that to what’s on offer elsewhere, you might be surprised. If you had a card earning 0.5 Qantas Points per $1, that $10,000 spend would give you 5,000 Qantas Points. Spent in the Qantas Store, those points could get you a $25 Woolies gift card.

It’s fair to say you would get more value redeeming points for flights or upgrades within the Qantas program, but if you’re not interested in any of that – or if you simply want to get something back on your card spending while putting in minimal effort and understanding, this rewards program lets you do just that.

Plus, if you spend more than $8,000 each year, Hume Bank will waive the – already pretty tiny – annual fee. That means you are essentially earning rewards for free. Got someone you want to add to the account? You can add an additional cardholder to the account at no extra cost, which lets you earn points even faster.

What’s not so great...

As you can see from the value of rewards on offer, you need to keep costs down to find any value at all. You can zero out the annual fee on this card, which is great, but keeping interest at zero is also important. The interest on this card isn’t huge, but it’ll put a dent in the value of your rewards if you carry a balance.

Make the most of what this card offers by clearing the balance by the due date, and taking advantage of up to 55 days interest free on purchases.

Why should you choose this card?

If you want access to a simple cashback rewards program, the Hume Bank Clear Visa Credit Card could be a great card to have in your wallet. Simply use your card day to day, and you will earn cashback rewards placed directly into your account. Spending $8,000 on the card will waive your annual fee, so as long as you avoid interest, you could earn rewards while enjoying access to credit, as you pay (essentially) nothing for the privilege.

Overall Rating

A simple card that offers cashback rewards, the Hume Bank Clear Visa Credit Card has a reasonable interest rate and a low annual fee that is waived when you reach a minimum yearly spend.
