What we love...
Since this card has an intro offer, we’ll talk about that first. Currently offered to new cardholders, the Qudos Bank Platinum Credit Card has 4.99% p.a. on purchases and balance transfers for five months. This gives you five months paying a lowered rate of interest, helping you to save on everyday spending and larger purchases, or any credit card debt you transfer onto the card.
What about points earning? The Qudos Bank Platinum Credit Card is Qudos Bank’s only rewards card, and as you would expect from a Qantas card, it earns points on the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. With this card in your wallet, you will earn:
- 1 Qantas Point for every $1 spent on eligible purchases up to $2,500 per calendar month
- 0.5 Qantas Points for every $1 spent on eligible purchases thereafter
- 1 additional Qantas Point per $1 spent on selected Qantas products and services
Points are capped on spending up to $200,000 per year. As a nice touch though, you can benefit from complimentary Qantas Frequent Flyer membership if you are not yet a member, giving you access to all the program has to offer. This means being able to redeem points on anything from flights and upgrades, to treats from Qantas Wine and merchandise from the Qantas Store.
You may have also noticed this card is a platinum card. So, what does it have to offer in the way of platinum perks? Like many platinum cards, this card offers complimentary overseas travel insurance to cardholders who pay for at least half of their overseas travel costs with their card. Cover is also extended to family members travelling with you, as long as they meet eligibility requirements.
While it’s best to check the PDS for full details on the cover offered, you could benefit from Overseas Emergency Medical Assistance, Personal Liability, Luggage and Personal Effects, Cancellation Fees and Lost Deposits, and Rental Vehicle Excess cover. As a cardholder, you can also enjoy access to the Visa Premium Concierge Service and Visa Platinum entertainment offers.
What’s not so great...
When it comes time to compare rewards cards, it all comes down to value. What value does the card offer you as a cardholder? Deciding whether the Qudos Bank Platinum Credit Card is right for you, take into account its rather steep annual fee, as well as the value of the rewards you expect to earn.
Why should you choose this card?
If you think the Qudos Bank Platinum Credit Card offers good value, it may be just the Qantas card you’ve been searching for. It’s also worth pointing out that while it may have a high annual fee, you can add one additional cardholder at no extra cost, which could help you to earn points faster and enjoy more value. Bear in mind, points shaping still occurs after a monthly spend of $2,500.
It’s also worthwhile thinking about how you typically deal with your balance month to month. While its purchase rate is not high by platinum card standards, it’s not low either. So, if you want to see real value on your rewards and features, it’s best to avoid interest accruing by paying off your balance by the due date each month to take advantage of up to 55 interest free days on purchases.
