The Westpac Altitude Business Platinum Credit Card

Looking for a platinum business card that really packs a punch? If you’ve spent time comparing business credit card options, you’ll know that not all are created equal. As a guide, you’ll usually find platinum options tend to offer more in features and extras, but also tend to charge more in annual fees as well.

Weighing up pretty nicely on the outlay vs. return scale, the Westpac Altitude Business Platinum Credit Card provides an excellent set of features, a great rewards program, plus some very appealing introductory offers, all with an annual fee that you may indeed find reasonable.

What we love...

The card has $0 annual fee for the first year - which gives you a big saving of $200. The other introductory offer is for cardholders who have existing credit card debt that they want to pay off. With this balance transfer offer, you can benefit from a rate of 4.99% p.a. for 12 months on balance transfers requested at card application.

Now, on to those amazing features we talked about. As the name suggests, the Westpac Altitude Business Platinum Credit Card is a rewards card that earns points on the Altitude program.

In terms of the earn rate, cardholders can earn uncapped points, with 2 points per $1 spent with overseas merchants, and 1 point per $1 spent within Australia. Government payments attract 0.5 points per $1 spent.

You could choose to redeem your points for travel, flights, merchandise, and gift vouchers within the Altitude program, or alternatively, redeem them for frequent flyer points within Qantas Frequent Flyer, Virgin Australia's Velocity, Air New Zealand Airpoints, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer or Cathay Pacific AsiaMiles.

What’s not so great...

It’s worth noting that this card has an ample annual fee and a relatively high rate of interest on cash advances and purchases. If you choose to take advantage of the balance transfer offer, keep in mind that there are other options out there offering lower rates of interest, which could allow you to save more money in the long run.

Why should you choose this card?

Want more? Don’t worry, this card has even more features to tempt you. As a cardholder, you can benefit from the services of a platinum concierge, as well as one additional cardholder at no extra cost, up to 55 days interest-free on purchases, and easy tax reporting and analysis of your business transactions.

There is also an array of complimentary insurances on offer, which include overseas travel insurance and transit accident insurance, purchase security insurance, extended warranty insurance, and unauthorised transaction insurance.

Overall Rating

A platinum rewards business card that is jam-packed with features, currently offering $0 annual fee for the first year, and 4.99% p.a. on balance transfers for 12 months.

Travel insurance I recently purchased Qantas flight fares for my 2 12yo children to accompany me to NZ for 8 days. I paid for the children's tickets on my Westpac Altitude Business Card but paid for mine on a different card as the bookings were made at different times. What is the position with travel insurance for the kids?

Hi Peter, this is a bit of a grey area, and not wanting to give you any misleading information, you should definitely check this with the Check your Cover part of Westpac’s site. Hopefully you’ll get the information you need and have a great trip to NZ!

Hi David, this will come down to what you want out of a credit card. You’ll need to weigh up the benefits, extras, fees and charges of both cards and work out which works better for you. However, there is no Westpac Black Business Credit card in their product suite. You can browse and compare a range of business cards that are available to us right now.

How does this card work with Qantas points? Are the 80,000 altitude rewards points equivalent to 80,000 qantas reward points?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    15 June 2020
Hi Al, Altitude points are not as strong as Qantas points. I had a bit of a hard time tracking the conversion down but it looks like 2:1. If you are keen on Qantas earning then another more focused card would be best. The big points earning are with the AMEX Qantas Business at 1.25 points per $ uncapped. The NAB Qantas Business Signature has a 0.67 earn rate to top out the Visa side. Depending on your spend and ability to use AMEX. You could have 2 cards (AMEX + Visa/MasterCard).

We have been in business just over 7 months, would we be able to get a business credit card. We have an ABN and are registered for GST Thanks

    25 October 2019
Hi Chris, typically I would suggest you apply when your business is at least 12 months old. It is hard to get approved otherwise. 1 year of trading is the basic amount of time banks expect before giving credit.
