What we love…
One of the great things about the Westpac Altitude Platinum Credit Card is its flexibility and as a cardholder, you can choose to earn points on the Altitude program, or you can opt in to the Qantas program. Here we will look at the Altitude Qantas program and if you are interested in earning Altitude points, have a look here.
All you have to do to get your hands on those bonus points is apply and be approved by 30 April 2025, and then spend $4,000 on eligible purchases within 90 days of card approval to earn 60,000 points and get an extra 20,000 points after your first eligible purchase in year 2. Once you’ve made that spend, the bonus 80,000 points will be credited to your account within 12 weeks. Then it’s simply a matter of deciding what you want to spend them on.
Qantas
When you choose to earn Qantas points you opt in to the Qantas program, paying a $75 Qantas Rewards fee. Within this program, you can earn 0.5 Qantas Points for every $1 spent on eligible purchases*, to be redeemed within Qantas Store for merchandise and gift cards, or on travel products such as flights and accommodation.
Qantas Points are capped at $100,000 per year. Bonus Qantas Points excluded in the cap.
In terms of that 80,000 bonus points, it will get you further with Qantas, allowing you to fly from Perth to Singapore in economy class (56,512 points) or Sydney to London in economy class (66,200 points). You will also hand over fewer points for that $250 Woolworths Group WISH Digital Gift Card, redeeming just 54,550 Qantas Points.
What’s not so great…
As you will find with most platinum rewards cards, the interest charged on the Westpac Altitude Platinum Credit Card is not low. With both the purchase rate and cash advance rate being relatively high, it’s best to avoid cash advances and to clear your balance month-to-month.
As for points redemption, there are other credit cards on the market offering a higher earn rate on the Qantas program, but it’s up to you to work out which one offers the most back for your spend. With its reasonable annual fee, the Westpac Altitude Platinum Credit Card may just offer a more rewarding option.
Why should you choose this card?
If you’re looking for a flexible rewards card with some nice extras on the side, the Westpac Altitude Platinum Credit Card could be well worth looking into. Plus, a discounted annual card fee of $119 for the first year ($175 thereafter) and annual $75 Qantas Rewards Fee.
